We held our first Family Math Night at Arbolita, and it was a tremendous success! Over 100 attendees joined us for an evening filled with excitement, where each student left with five new math games to enjoy at home. We are grateful to our wonderful students, families, and our dedicated staff who made this memorable night possible.
Our Family Math Committee—comprised of Mrs. McClintock, Ms. Varela, Mrs. Leon-Martin, Ms. Kim, Mr. Al-Jamie, Mrs. Yi, and Ms. Lunsford—worked tirelessly to create an engaging and educational evening. As families arrived, they could test their estimation skills with a candy-filled estimation jar, with the closest guess winning the candies! They also entered a raffle for math games, dominoes, and cards. To encourage attendance, we offered a prize for the class with the highest turnout and provided two fun ways to sign in using a ten frame and a tally mark chart.
The event featured five interactive stations where families played games like Farkle, dice within dice, multiplication bingo, dominoes, and rhythm war musical math. Laughter and cheers filled the multipurpose room as families enjoyed friendly competition, often without even realizing they were practicing math skills!
The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. One parent shared, “All my kids were still playing the games all the way to bedtime!” It’s clear that Family Math Night was a hit, and we’re already looking forward to making it an annual Arbolita tradition!
