As the 2015 – 2016 school year begins, it is evident that Imperial Middle School is committed to developing the intelligence of ALL their students. There is an emphasis on creating classroom environments that embrace challenges and promotes effort and determination. An example of this can be seen as the 8th grade science students were challenged to design a vessel that remains buoyant while carrying cargo (marbles). Working collaboratively, students learned that each time their vessel sank, (which some would consider a failure), they actually succeeded! The students would go back to the design table and refine their thinking as to why the vessel sank and redesign a new and improved vessel. Through this process, students were able to use and develop their minds and master the concept of density and buoyance. In turn, realizing that effort ignites learning which is then turned into knowledge.
We are looking forward to a new school year with many opportunity for our students to become college and career ready!
