This year, the La Habra City School District provided monthly parent/caregiver workshops called Wellness Wednesdays. Our school psychologists and counselors partnered up to help parents support their childrens’ education and wellness as well as their own.
Wellness Wednesdays were designed to provide valuable information and strategies for parents/caregivers and to have time to connect and share ideas with others. Topics that have been covered include strengthening family relationships, gratitude through the holidays, social media safety, drug prevention, and healthy communication. Wellness Wednesdays were offered both in person and by Zoom, and our team looks forward to this continued parent outreach next school year.
The La Habra City School District is fortunate to maintain a partnership with the La Habra Police Department. Each school year, a School Resource Officer (SRO) is assigned to support our schools. This year we welcomed Officer Milward as our SRO. Throughout the year his presence was seen at all of our schools however, the majority of his time was spent at our middle schools where he had the opportunity to interact and engage with students and our school community. Aside from the day-to-day activities, Officer Milward and other members of the LHPD assisted with the following events and trainings:
During Red Ribbon Week an anti-Drug presentation was given at Ladera Palma School with Officer Milward and Officer Esquivel.
Officer Milward addressed the Fourth Amendment at Washington Middle School through a presentation on how search and seizure is applied by law enforcement.
During Read across America Week, various officers, detectives, dispatchers, and records clerks visited El Cerrito, Las Lomas, and Las Positas schools to honor Dr. Seuss's Birthday and read to students.
LHPD chaplain Mike Murphy and his therapy dog Ike visited Sierra Vista Elementary School Pals and students for a lunch time meet and greet to promote health and wellness.
