As a No Excuses University School, we believe that ALL of our students are deserving of an education that will prepare them for their future, whether that future consists of college or not, students should have a choice in their learning and their career. As part of this belief, we explicitly teach lessons each month, called College Conversations, where students at each grade level are introduced to different concepts that will prepare them for the real world beyond elementary school.
This week, our 4th and 5th graders demonstrated their college and career readiness by showcasing their academic journey in a goal setting roadmap. Students had to reflect on where they are now in their schooling and what present strengths and challenges they’ve had this year in elementary school. Students also had to share how they have overcome various challenges this year and how they will use that to push themselves forward in their future goals. Many parents, family members and even students from the lower grades came out to support our students' presentations. Not only did they have the opportunity to practice their writing and speaking skills, but they also were able to research their future academic journey - selecting their middle school, high school, and future college -ultimately leading them to a career that was aligned to their passions and interests. The best part of the day was seeing the pride our students took in their learning and hearing the compliments of many who were impressed that our students are so goal oriented in their future!
